Future state process mapping is one of the most important activities that you should be performing while you’re trying to scope out a certain solution for your customers, or when you are trying to figure out what the business requirements for a certain project or a certain product are. And part of the reason why.
Doing future state process mapping is so effective because it gives a visual representation of what the future state of your customer’s world is going to look like. So essentially, when you do a process map in this format, what you’re telling your customer is that in the future, you’re going to have certain people or certain roles and certain divisions that are involved in certain types of that process.
Certain parts of that process. And there are certain activities that need to be carried out in a specific sequence for their part of the business to be able to operate properly. And once you paint that kind of a picture for your customers, it makes it very easy for them to make. Decisions around what their business requirements are.
And so that’s why doing future state process mapping is so important for the requirements process. Now, most employers that hire business analysts don’t necessarily understand the connection between doing process mapping and requirements, and most business analysts that do process mapping don’t necessarily know exactly how to flow very directly from their process maps into their business requirements.
